Last Thursday I was invited by one of my favorite restaurants, Red the Steakhouse, to attend the grand opening of their summer patio. It was a perfect evening with friends, food, drinks, and fresh summer air.
I can't lie, sometimes outdoor summer events give me "fashion anxiety", mainly due to the high temperatures. I didn't want to buy anything new, so I went to my closet and began to shop. I really wish people would understand just how beneficial shopping in your own closet can be. When my closet is in its best state and organized I try to browse just like I would at a store. That may be sound crazy, but I assure you it works! I walk into my closet with the mindset of finding and wearing something that I haven't in a while. I go through racks and drawers one by one, and I promise I always find something. The moment of "Oh I had forgot I had this" kicks in and I'm instantly excited to wear whatever it is. This time I remembered that Anne Castro (see her on my insta) and I had watched some new tutorials on how to tie a scarf. I looked up, saw my favorite Gucci Scarf and knew right away I was going to make it a top. I bought this scarf last summer from Saks, and I had been eyeing it for a while. I told myself when I bought it "Okay invest in this piece Kiarra, but you better find several ways to rock it", and I am definitely proud of all the ways I've done it so far.
I paired the scarf with these amazing adidas track pants, that I found on sale at Macy's. The detail at the bottom of these pants is everything to me. If you have been keeping up with my blogs, you know I how I feel about details. I would normally have this type of pant hemmed to fit me, but I refuse to let go of the bottom detail. Keeping the details meant I needed a very high heel. I decided to do something with a platform because I knew this event would be standing, mingling, and moving around. I try to never put myself in a bad heel situation if I know what I will be doing ahead of time. Cute is key, but not being able to stand in my heels takes away from how cute they are.
I finished this look with my favorite detailed piece, my @kiarralooks New York Yankees cap. I love wearing baseball caps and like to think I have mastered dressing them up and down. I might be in this cap all summer; branding at its best.
